可是如果想想句子的结构就不懂了

应该是whose money (which) this was

关系子句: whose money this was 先暂时这样子看原句->(直述句/非关系子句)this was their money (我暂用their，较方便，特别是前头已经有提到the people)their: (就是指前头的the people) the people's转成关系子句，将 their money (/ the people's money) 前移，然后用 whose 代 "their(/the people's)"
