It is ... that 的句型，我们以往学到的主要是“强调”功能：
It is John that wrote those letters. 写那些信的人，正是John（强调“就是”他做
了这件事）。
当然，更不用说一般常见的 It is 形/名 + that 子句: It is great that you're
here. 你来了真好。
但另一个同句型的不同意思，就让很多人（包括母语人士）跌跤了：
It is ___ that ____. 有否定意味
著名的例子是莎士比亚在《威尼斯商人》里写的这句：
It is a wise father that knows his own child.
后来改为较通俗的字眼，变成篇头的那句谚语： It is a good father that knows his
son.
有人认为是 It takes a wise father to know his own child.

而这个解释，就接近朱生豪、梁实秋对此句的翻译：
只有聪明的父亲才会知道他自己的儿子。（朱译）
只有聪明的父亲才认识他自己的儿子呢。（梁译）
但更近代的汉译，则倾向认为此句型并非“只有....才”的意思，
而是语带否定地说，“再怎么....也不”。
例如以下几句：
It is a good workman that never blunders.
再好的工人，也会犯错（智者千虑，必有一失）。（出处）
It is a bold mouse that nestles in the cat's ear.
再勇敢的老鼠也不会在猫耳朵里安家。（做不必要的冒险，算不得真勇敢。）（出处1 出
