“按门铃”的英文一般说 press the doorbell 或 ring the doorbell。
press 比较直译，“按”的动作。
ring 则是常见的惯用法，因为按下去会让门铃“响”。
而 ring a bell 这个词组，通常是比喻用法，意思是“听起来熟悉”、“好像有印象”
：
Her name rings a bell, but I can’t remember where I met her.
（她的名字听起来很熟，但我想不起来在哪里见过。）
所以如果是字面上的“按门铃”，要说 ring the doorbell 或 press the doorbell，不
能直接用 ring a bell。
