现在式
在正式英文里, 当你要争论/辩论"事实"时。
"事实"一定会是现在式, "事实"不可能成为"过去式"。
正式文章的写作连讲英文的人也不一定搞得很清楚
例如你会说
Einstein is smart. (This is the fact.)
爱因斯坦是聪明的 (这是事实, 所以是现在式)
Einstein was the smartest student when he was studying in the ETH Zurich.
爱因斯坦在过去正在ETH苏黎世唸书时, 他是最聪明的学生
(这是在说他叙述的状态/故事)
Five times ten is fifty. (Mathematics is always the fact)
5乘以10是50 (数学本身就是事实, 除非是在说某个定论不再是事实因为是错的)
Einstein proposed a famous equation that is
"The E is equal to the product of the M and the square of the C".
爱因斯坦提出了著名的式子那就是
E=MC^2, 除非有人证明这是彻底错误的
Before the discovery of the electron, the atom was the basic unit.
在还没发现电子之前原子(过去)是基本单位
所以原子(现在)是基本单位吗? 这不是事实了, 不可能会用现在式is去叙述 atom
