为什么前面的was 不能用had been呢?
后面的had stopped 是雨持续到课程前结束，但前面的课堂不也是"持续"到课程结束吗?
怎么不能用had been呢?

extinct by the time people first appeared
那段时间不是正在漫游[were roaming]吗?

hadn't recognized也可以吧? (持续到我辨识出他)

成长不是持续成长吗? had grown不是比较适当?
