有两个字，在不管在英美的校园，还是台湾的美国学校里，学生都会学到的，
那就是 Denotation 和 Connotation。
简而言之，denotation 是该字或句子相对“表面”的意思 (literal meanings)
connotation 是该字或句子“隐含”的意思 (suggestive meanings)
或可能做的相关含义联想 (会含有情感、态度)。
从 "home" 一字我们可以来看其差别：
The word home "denotes" the place one lives with his/her family,
but it connotes comforts, intimacy, and privacy.
有人可能问，为什么这两个字在学术界里那么重要？
原因主要因为，在很多领域的研究中，对研究主题中不断提及的概念去阐述其
“定义”(conceptualization) 和交代定义的使用 (operationalization)
对于要让研究有validity & reliability 是很重要的一个要件。
而一个概念 (construct)，经常会需要去阐述其 literal meaning (s)
和 suggestive meaning (s)，这时就是用这个两字的好时机。
