那时，耶稣对民众和他的门徒讲论说：
“经师和法利塞人坐在梅瑟的讲座上：
凡他们对你们所说的，你们要行要守；
但不要照他们的行为去做，因为他们只说不做。
他们把沉重而难以负荷的担子捆好，放在人的肩上，
自己却不肯用一个指头动一下。
他们所做的一切工作都是为叫人看；
为此，他们把经匣放宽，衣䍁加长；
他们又喜爱筵席上的首位，会堂中的上座；
喜爱人在街市上向他们致敬，称他们为“辣彼”。
至于你们，却不要被称为“辣彼”，
因为你们的师傅只有一位，你们众人都是兄弟；
也不要在地上称人为你们的父，
因为你们的父只有一位，就是天上的父。
你们也不要被称为导师，
因为你们的导师只有一位，就是默西亚。
你们中那最大的，该作你们的仆役。
凡高举自己的，必被贬抑；
凡贬抑自己的，必被高举。”
Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying,
"The scribes and the Pharisees
have taken their seat on the chair of Moses.
Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you,
but do not follow their example.
For they preach but they do not practice.
They tie up heavy burdens hard to carry
and lay them on people's shoulders,
but they will not lift a finger to move them.
All their works are performed to be seen.
They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels.
They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues,
greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.'
As for you, do not be called 'Rabbi.'
You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers.
Call no one on earth your father;
you have but one Father in heaven.
Do not be called 'Master';
you have but one master, the Christ.
The greatest among you must be your servant.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled;
but whoever humbles himself will be exalted."
福音朗読 マタイによる福音 23章1-12节
（そのとき、）イエスは群众と弟子たちにお话しになった。
“律法学者たちやファリサイ派の人々は、モーセの座に着いている。
だから、
彼らが言うことは、すべて行い、また守りなさい。
しかし、
彼らの行いは、见倣ってはならない。
言うだけで、実行しないからである。
彼らは背负いきれない重荷をまとめ、人の肩に载せるが、
自分ではそれを动かすために、指一本贷そうともしない。
そのすることは、すべて人に见せるためである。
圣句の入った小箱を大きくしたり、衣服の房を长くしたりする。
宴会では上座、会堂では上席に座ることを好み、
また、広场で挨拶されたり、‘先生’と呼ばれたりすることを好む。
だが、あなたがたは‘先生’と呼ばれてはならない。
あなたがたの师は一人だけで、あとは皆兄弟なのだ。
また、地上の者を‘父’と呼んではならない。
あなたがたの父は天の父おひとりだけだ。
‘教师’と呼ばれてもいけない。
あなたがたの教师はキリスト一人だけである。
あなたがたのうちでいちばん伟い人は、仕える者になりなさい。
だれでも高ぶる者は低くされ、へりくだる者は高められる。
