Message from Haruki Murakami where the author expresses his gratitude for the
award. He accepted it with great pleasure because Greece was the first
foreign country he visited in his life 31 years ago and since then never
misses the opportunity to visit it occasionally. He has even stay on an
island for a time where he wrote a novel:
ギリシャは今から三十年前、仆が生まれて初めて访问した外国です。その美しさにすっ
かり心を夺われて、そのあと何度も足を运びました。しばらく岛に暮らして、小说を书
いたこともあります。そういう国の赏をいただけたことは、仆にとっての何よりの歓び

The Athens Prize for Literature 2013
The Athens Prize for Literature for best Greek and Foreign Novel published in
2012 ceremony took place in the Cavafy Room in the Cultural Centre of Athens
on Saturday, December 28th , at 18:00. The awards were presented by Deputy
Mayor Mrs. Nellie Papahelas . Short presentations for the candidates to be
awarded books did both coordinators and novelists Theodore Grigoriadis and
Chrysa Spyropoulos. The prize is a statuette by sculptor Theodoros and a Mont
Blanc pen which will be sent to the writer via his publisher.
