MILAN— Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said Wednesday its board has decided to
spin off Ferrari SpA and will float 10% of the luxury-car brand.
FCA plans to list Ferrari next year in the U.S. and possibly a European
exchange as well. The plan is aimed at raising money to help finance FCA’s
ambitious €48 billion ($61.12 billion) five-year plan.
The news comes little more than a month after Luca Cordero di Montezemolo
stepped down as chairman of the brand after 23 years. According to people
familiar with the situation, Mr. Montezemolo had long opposed an initial
public offering of Ferrari.
FCA also Wednesday reported a broadly unchanged third-quarter net profit, as
improvements in North America and Asia-Pacific were offset by losses in
Europe.
Net profit was €188 million, compared with €189 million in the third
quarter of last year. Revenue rose 12% to €23.55 billion.
FCA confirmed its year-end guidance, forecasting revenue of about €93
billion and net profit of €600 million to €800 million. Operating profit
excluding one-time items is expected to be €3.6 billion to €4 billion and
net industrial debt is forecast to come in at €9.8 billion to €10.3 billion
The company expects to sell 4.7 million vehicles this year, a 6.8% increase
from 2013, boosted by strong demand in North America and Asia-Pacific.
Net industrial debt was €11.4 billion at the end of September, an increase
of €1.7 billion from the end of June.
