某个基金会提供了钱给我,让我能负担学费、住
宿外,每个月还有些许的零用钱。北美的大学在
资源上与学术环境上果然比较充足。
老师要我交一份半页的bio,花了一个小时挤了一
些东西出来,老师的评语是:

The political and social structures of China h
ave been facing different forms of challenges
since the 1980s. Economic growth since the Reform
has been significant. National confidence is back
up. Nationalism and national identity are indeed
the issues and concerns of everybody and in every
academic discipline. Ancient Chinese history and
archeology does not exist objectively. It interacts
with the whole society and also performs the function
of aggregating the social public.
Having studied history through formal education and
my experiences in museums and in the fields, I was
amazed that the cultures and civilizations in the
peripheral areas of China. Peripheral areas seemed
to be forgotten by historian in the “Chinese”
historical development and the identity of homogeneous
“Chinese people”. In my master thesis at the Department
of History at National Taiwan University, I analyzed the
process of sinicization in Chengdu Plain and how the
Chinese empire formalized. I want to observe the process
of the diversification of peripheral areas towards unification.
In the PhD program at the Department of the XXXXXX
at XXXXX University, I will further my study in the
formation of ancient Chinese empire. It built up
not only a political empire but a cultural system
in order to become an intellectual and spiritual
power by influencing the heterogeneous cultures of
neighboring cultures and civilizations.

用英文来思考中国历史对我来说并没有什么特别之处,我的

论的议题与此无关 )。与法文课上的瑞典同学讨论时,他似
乎觉得这是相当显而易见的事实。他说就像现在的埃及人,
也只是活在那块土地上,金字塔对充其量不过就是观光资源
。他来自苏丹,父亲在瑞典落脚,从小学得是英文和瑞典话
,阿拉伯文对他来说是外国话,苏丹、阿拉伯或许是某种乡
愁的模糊记忆,却没有任何熟悉的感觉。
