1. The climate of the past
in the ice that gap between Greenland and Antarctic continent.
the form of ice.
compact=press together(命中真经班讲义)
associated = related(命中真经班讲义)
sensitive to=affected by
construct=create
2. The importance of mail service to the early United States
大意:1792年,new commutation network出现- postal in the united states.
Newspaper 2. Congress.
不同地区食物的价格,而这些信息流通决定了how people value what to buy or sell.
explicit = clearly stated(命中真经班讲义)
integration = unity
suspicion = distrust
lucrative = profitable(命中真经班讲义)
3. Weak electric system in fish
distortion = irregularity(命中真经班讲义)
peculiar = unusual(命中真经班讲义)
temporarily = briefly(命中真经班讲义)
1. Which of the sentences below best expresses the essential information in
the highlighted sentence in the passage Incorrect choices change the meaning
in important ways or leave out essential information.
A. Throughout the life of the fish, its electric discharges vary in power
from undetectable to fairly potent.
B. Nearly continuous discharges undetectable by humans create a stable,
low-level electric field around the body of the fish.
C. Human handlers cannot feel the electric discharges because the discharges
are at such low power levels.
D. The discharges are so weak that they would have to be fired almost
continuously to create a detectable electric field.
2. The word distortions in the passage is closest in meaning to
A. decreases
B. signals
C. concentrations
D. irregularities
3. Paragraph 2 describes an experiment with elephantnose fish that were
electrically silent and therefore unable to
A. distinguish between new and familiar objects in their aquarium
B. swim around the partition in their aquarium
C. find their way through a hole in a barrier
D. see with their eyes

system
1. What does the professor mainly discuss?
The design of mechanical vehicles on a microscopic scale
2. What components of a nano-car does the professor say present the greatest
challenge to researchers?
An engine
A steering mechanism
3. Why does the professor mention honey?
To help illustrate the difficulty of moving nano-vehicles through water or
air.
4. What was responsible for the successful movement of the platinum gold rod
nanoengine?
The combination of two chemical reactions created a proton imbalance.
5. Why does the nanoengine that the professor discusses not need to carry
fuel?
The liquid in which the machine is immersed is fuel supply.
6. What is the professor's attitude about the use of magnetic fields for
steering nanovehicles?
It is an effective approach but other approaches are needed as well.
Advisor 表示她should have noticed it,并且语气中有责备。
①studied math for 3 years in high school
② pass the university test
coloration,一种通过变色,变得很鲜艳来give the predator a warning 的方式。
6. 讨论莎士比亚到底是不是那些巨作的author(命中真经班讲义)

It's easier to teach children in primary schools than students in universities.
Include reasons and details in your explanation.
4. Commitment devices(命中真经班讲义)
A commitment device is helpful when people have some conflicts between
immediate desire and long-term goals.
听力:the professor uses his own experience as an example, several years ago,
he was planning to attend 10 kilometers' race, before the race, he was
supposed to get some physical preparation like exercise, he was busy at that
time only had free time in the morning before work, so he started to get up
very early to exercise in the first couple of days while gave up later.
Then, he made appointment with one of his friends who had the same goal with
him, the friend called him every day in the morning, in order to keep the
promise and take this responsibility, he insisted and did very well later.
6. Two types of alarming signals animals use
(1) Alarming calls: When a bird called robin encounters an approaching
danger, it would cry out loudly to warn the other birds nearby about the
danger. Receivers of this call would immediately seek shelter against the
predator.
(2) Chemical substance: when a kind fish called salmon is hurt under the
water, its skin would release a chemical substance with a unique smell, which
serves as a message to other salmon. So, they would hide and be out of reach
from predators.

5. Lion fish
Lion fish

1. hunting its prey:
2. sense sunlight:
