(1) @Yankees: Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following
roster moves:
‧ Added OF Andrew Benintendi (#18) to the active roster.
‧ Optioned OF Tim Locastro to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
(2) @Yankees: The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired
OF Andrew Benintendi from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for minor leaguers
RHP Chandler Champlain, LHP T.J. Sikkema and RHP Beck Way.
(3) @JeffPassan: The New York Yankees are finalizing a deal to acquire
outfielder Andrew Benintendi from Kansas City, sources tell ESPN. Three minor
leaguers will be headed back to the Royals.
3.1. @JonHeyman: Royals receive minors pitchers Champlain, Way and Sikkema
for Benintendi
-NEW!-
3:34PM EDT
(4) @ BryanHoch: Andrew Benintendi said that he remains unvaccinated and did
not discuss getting the shot as a condition of this trade. He said that he is
“open minded” about getting it, though.
(5) @JonHeyman: Word is, Benintendi has told folks he will get the vaccination.
Trade is final, so Yankees must believe he will. (7/27)
(6) @JonHeyman: While there’s no word the Yankees are officially out on
Juan Soto it’s clear they aren’t currently at the forefront of those talks.
So it makes sense they jumped on Andrew Benintendi. SD, STL, LAD and TEX,
perhaps due to better prospect matches, seem more involved in Soto talks.
(7) @JonHeyman: Yankees are shopping Gallo but so far having trouble finding
anyone willing to offer the type of prospect they seek. Padres and Rangers
like him but both are wrapped up in Juan Soto talks at moment.
(8) @BryanHoch: The #Yankees started the year 49-16 (looking like the "best
planet on the team," some might say). They’ve played .500 ball over the last
five weeks: 17-17 since June 19 (and 7-12 in last 19 games).
(9) @BryanHoch: Andrew Benintendi flew to NY with the Royals last night and
had a feeling it was his last trip with KC. He got the news of his trade
around 11pm last night from KC manager Mike Matheny.
(10) @BryanHoch: Aaron Judge is expected to move back to right field more
frequently now that Andrew Benintendi is on the roster, said Aaron Boone,
who has spoken to Judge about the plan.
10.1. @BryanHoch: To follow up on this: Benintendi LF, Hicks CF, Judge RF
… though you’ll still see Judge in center sometimes.
(11) @BryanHoch: Aaron Boone on Andrew Benintendi: “I look at him as
a left-handed DJ (LeMahieu).”
(12) @MaxTGoodman: Andrew Benintendi since June 27:
.398/.457/.434 (33-for-83) with 14 RBI, 10 BB, 10 K in 23 G
(13) @MaxTGoodman: Benintendi has been great this year with RISP...
.294/.382/.341 (25-for-85) with 30 RBI
Only four #Yankees have a higher BA with RISP this year (Carpenter, Trevino,
Judge, IKF).
(14) @MaxTGoodman: The #Yankees went 0-for-15 with RISP in this two-game series
against the #Mets.
New York is 6-for-41 (.146) with RISP in their last four games.
(15) @MaxTGoodman: Lucas Luetge's last three outings: 5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 7 K
Luetge since June 1: 3 ER allowed in 24 IP with 23 K
(16) @MaxTGoodman: Isiah Kiner-Falefa has a 14-game hitting streak.
Ties a career-high streak for IKF.
(17) @ktsharp: Andrew Benintendi gets a called strike or swinging strike on
just 20.9% of pitches seen.
That's tied for the 5th-lowest (best) rate in MLB among qualified hitters.
No other Yankee ranks in the top 45 on that list (out of 157 qualified
batters).
(18) @ktsharp: Yankees now have 6 walkoff losses this season. The only AL team
with more is Red Sox (7).
(19) @ktsharp: Yankees have the most walkoff wins in MLB (11).
(20) @ktsharp: Since his rookie season in 2018, Gleyber Torres now has
8 game-tying hits in the 8th inning or later.
The only player with more in that span is Starling Marte (9).
(21) @ktsharp: Isiah Kiner-Falefa's 14-game hit streak is the longest by
a Yankee SS since Didi Gregorious had a 17-game streak in 2017.
