Meeting Description:
The Seoul International Conference on Generative Grammar (SICOGG) is an annual
conference bringing together generative linguistics from East Asia and around
the world to present and discuss current research related to generative
syntax and its interfaces. The Workshop on Altaic Formal Linguistics (WAFL)
deals with formal aspects of any area of theoretical Altaic linguistics,
including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, or pragmatics. The term ‘
Altaic’ is understood to include Turkic, Mongolic, and Tungusic languages, as
well as Korean, Jejueo, Japanese, Ryukyuan, and Ainu. WAFL18 and SICOGG26
will host a combined conference in August, 2024 at Jeonbuk National University
in Jeonju, South Korea. Jeonju has convenient bus and train connections from
Incheon Airport, Seoul, and Busan, and has been recognized by UNESCO for its
gastronomic significance. A call for papers and list of invited speakers will
be made available soon. The special theme of the conference is “Comparative
Altaic Grammar”. Abstracts are invited for 20-minute in-person talks (plus 10
-minute discussions) and for posters from all areas of generative grammar. In
keeping with our theme preference will be given to submissions that address
either (i) comparative investigations within Altaic languages, or (ii)
comparative investigations between Altaic and non-Altaic languages.
* Linguistic Field(s): Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantics and their
interfaces
* Language Family(ies): Altaic (Turkic, Tungusic, Mongolic, Koreanic, Japonic,
and Ainu) for WAFL; unrestricted for SICOGG
