Jeremy Lin may have to weave his magic again, coming off the bench.
Newly minted Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott revealed in an interview
that he is leaning on naming Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Wesley Johnson, Carlos
Boozer and Jordan Hill as his starters two weeks leading up to the start of
training camp. Not all is set in stone as Scott will use camp to gauge the
level of health and readiness of players who will be selected as official
starters.

The man who propelled Linsanity will not take things standing down as he
revealed that he is working on his individual defence, one of the perceived
weaknesses in his game, to propel his skills to the next level. He recently
posted a video on Instagram showing his persistence to work on his game and
captioned the post as, "this offseason I have been working really hard on my
defense, footwork and explosiveness...being able to stay low in my defensive
stance.. and stay balanced..."

It is understandable for Scott to put in Nash as the de facto starter as a
sign of respect for his experience and two MVP trophies. After all, Lin is no
stranger to doing things off the bench as he was one of the top penetrators
in the lane last year despite playing behind Patrick Beverly when he was with
the Houston Rockets. This may be a blessing in disguise as he will have more
time to handle and create with the second unit while Kobe Bryant, one of the
players with highest usage percentage, takes some rest.

Scott reveals that despite the rebuilding roster, he still wants his team to
target no less than the championship, that is why he is pressuring players to
deliver even before the start of training camp, to come into shape and
healthy.

"I'm going to walk into our locker room the first day of our meeting and say,
'I want to win a championship,'" Scott said during the players practice last
weekend. "I don't want us thinking it's fine if we just make the playoffs or
think we have no shot at making the playoffs. I don't believe that. I want
our guys to have the same mindset as I do."

This early Lin is showing he is in line with the coach's vision, practicing
daily with the coaches and working on his conditioning as shown in his posted
video. Scott also revealed that he will be implementing a Princeton offence
he believes that the Lakers will not be running around with their heads cut
off since it will bear some similarity with the triangle. He will also run
some Bryant post-up plays to command double teams and free up shooters.
If Lin can improve some more on his reliable jump shot, he will be a weapon
in any system that Scott will implement. Now, he is on to training camp.
