近日在阅读常春藤杂志时遇到了不懂的地方,
所以上来向各位前辈请教一下。

上图中标红线那句经广播的老师讲解,
可还原成以下的假设语气句子:
Customers normally also reject the largest size, believing that (if they chose
the largest size,) they would be spending too much for their cup of java.
按广播老师所说这句是“与现在事实相反”的假设语气,
可是一般文法书教的假设语气文法来看,

自己脑中浮现的会是以下这样:
...,believing that (if they chose the largest size,) they would "spend" too
much for their cup of java.
不懂为什么课文中的句子会以“be spending”这种“be + Ving”的进行式来表示呢?
而且“spend”这动词用Ving这种形式好像怪怪的,
难道花费这动作还有“正在”花或“持续一直”在花?
所以想请教一下为何这句假设语气会用“would be + Ving”来表现?
然后这种“would be + Ving”的表现和“would + 原形V”的表现又有何不同呢?
