这句话是出自于CNN，
想问的是orient to是介系词的to，
后面应该要to + Ving吧
是不是改成
oriented to avoiding direct sunlight
才是对的 ?

原写法没错。此处的 to 不是介系词"... , yet oriented (to a certain direction)(*1) to a...(*1) to avoid.... (*1) 一般常识已知或是前文有提等等，所以不用特别多余的交待。你光说出自CNN，不给link，所以你自己揣摩
