Terry honoured at London Football Awards
Fri 4 Mar 2016
John Terry received the Outstanding Contribution to London Football honour
at the capital's annual football awards on Thursday evening.
Terry, who is awaiting his 700th Chelsea appearance having made his debut
as a teenager in 1998, was in Battersea to pick up the award from Bob
Wilson, the former Arsenal goalkeeper whose Willow Foundation charity
organised the evening in Battersea.
'Chelsea has been my club since the age of 14,' Terry said. 'I've had some
great times and I'm just delighted I'm still here and contributing to the
team. Chelsea is my club and I love it dearly.
'I'm doing my coaching badges at the minute. I've learned an awful lot and
would like to contribute and give back at some point, but my full focus at
the moment is on getting back fit and giving everything until the end of
the season.'
Terry was not the only Chelsea award winner on the night, as Ladies
forward Eniola Aluko was named the London Women's Player of the Year after
helping the Blues to an unprecedented Double in 2015.
Aluko is currently on international duty with England in America, and so
was represented at the event by Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes. She
did, however, record a message for the audience.
'I am so proud to have won this award after an unforgettable year for me
personally,' Aluko said. 'To have finished third at the World Cup with
England and then win the Double with Chelsea will mean 2015 is a year I
will never forget.
'I would like to thank the judges for choosing me in such a competitive
category, which included two of my club colleagues, who would have both
been worthy winners.'
The women's award was won in 2015 by Ji So-Yun, who is pictured above
celebrating WSL success alongside her Chelsea team-mate.
The evening made an incredible £200,000 for the Willow Foundation, which
provides special days and events for seriously ill young adults.
