Marcus
“Is it fair to say Marcus, despite losing,
put up more of a fight than perhaps the
England football team did,” the journalist asked.
It drew laughs from the gallery and a pained
expression from Federer, who artfully dodged the
question.
“I didn’t see the match, so I can’t comment on
that. Such a pity,” said Federer, with a smile.
“I was playing, I was in the press, right?
Actually, I got an alibi.”
But the journalist refused to give up chasing the
headline he was after. “In that respect, is it
fair to say he’s restored, even a little bit, of
much-needed pride into English sport,” he said.
“You’re brutal, you guys,” Federer responded.
Journalist: “Just say yes.”
