上次“转折词你用对了吗？”提到Furthermore的用法，今天再分享一个也
是同学常会用的不是很精准的转折词：In other words. 这个词问每个同学
都会知道中文就是“换句话说，换言之”，但是后面接的句子真的就只是换
句话说这么简单吗？
我们先看字典的定义：
1) 韦氏字典（Merriam-Webster）:used to introduce a statement that
repeats what has been said in a different and usually a simpler or
more exact way
2) Cambridge Dictionary: toexplainit moreclearly
3) Macmillan Dictionary: usedforintroducinganother way ofsayingor
explainingsomething,especiallya moresimpleway
从三个字典的解释不难看出，In other words后面要接的是更清楚、更简单
的叙述，不单单只是简单的换句话说而已。
看完定义我们再看几个例句更能确定使用方法：
1) She said the movie was a bit predictable." "In other words, she
didn't like it.” 她说那部电影剧情有点好猜。换句话说，她不喜欢那部
电影。
2) He waseconomicalwith thetruth– in other words, helied. 他没说多少
实话—换言之，他在撒谎。
3) The tax only affects people on incomes of over $200,000 -in other
words, the very rich. 税制只影响到收入超过20万的人，换句话说，非常
有钱的那些人。
从以上例句可以看得出来 In other words后面接的句子都是前面句子更清
楚、更简化的概念，所以同学在使用的时候要注意句子前后有没有这样的概
念，如果没有的话，那宁可不要放，直接接下一个句子即可。
来看看同学写的句子, 想想看In other words用在这里合适吗？有更好的用
法吗？
First of all, it is the same interest that can help students make
friends more easily. In other words, in a sport team, students
share the same interest and in this situation, students can talk
about the same topic and feel associated with each of the team
members.
这里同学感觉是在套用模版，所以硬要用In other words, 但后面的句子没
有简化或更清楚的概念，这里比较好的transition word 可能是For
example.
相信同学看过以上的定义以及例句，应该对于In other words用法有更进一
步的了解，下次在写作时就不会用错了！
