Carlos Correa's rib injury is more serious than it originally seemed. The
Astros announced Wednesday that Correa has a fractured rib and will miss
approximately four to six weeks.
The team placed Correa on the 10-day injured list before Wednesday's game
against the Cubs at Minute Maid Park, recalling Myles Straw from Triple-A
Round Rock in the corresponding roster move.
Correa last played on Sunday against the Red Sox. He was held out of the
Astros' lineup the last two games after reporting rib cage soreness, and he
met with team doctors on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old shortstop is hitting .295/.360/.547 with 11 home runs and 35
RBIs in 50 games for Houston this season. The four-to-six week timeline means
he might not be back on the field until July.
Straw, who can play both the infield and outfield, was hitting .289 with 16
stolen bases in 46 games at Triple-A. The 24-year-old, who played nine big
league games last season and was on the Astros' postseason roster, is ranked
the team's No. 14 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
