The Boston Red Sox would like to re-sign Jacoby Ellsbury this winter, but
they may place a limitation on any contract offer.
They may shy away from a nine-figure deal after giving Carl Crawford $142
million three years ago. People familiar with Boston's thinking aren't
optimistic they'll be able to retain him.
The Red Sox tried to extend Ellsbury's contract before the season without
success and the current hang up is believed to be whether they'll surpass the
$100 million mark.
