Adam Dunn nearing the single season strikeout record
Adam Dunn struck out twice in last night’s win over the Indians, bringing
his season total to 220. The major league record is 223, set by Mark Reynolds
in 2009. Dunn could fall out of bed and strike out three times in two games,
so the record is his, right?
Well, maybe. Depends on what drives his sense of personal pride. Now that
the White Sox have been eliminated it wouldn’t be shocking for Robin Ventura
to sit Dunn — er, I mean for Dunn to have a “sore shoulder” or something —
and have him miss the last two games, thus avoiding the dubious record.
I kinda hope not, though. There’s something glorious about Adam Dunn’s
strikeouts. He should hold that record. And he should play on for 569 more,
breaking Reggie Jackson’s record. Which, at his rate, is only gonna take
three more seasons or so.
Go Adam, go!
