Ma said Beijing was afraid the appearance of the leaders
of Taiwan and mainland China at APEC would give
the world the false impression that they have abandoned the
"one China" principle.
马说北京害怕两岸领导人同时出现在APEC，会给世界带来
它们(北京)已经放弃了‘一个中国政策’的错误印象。
"I don't think it could be substantiated ... I hope more
favorable conditions can be created to make it happen,
" Ma said, stressing that APEC was designed for
economic leaders to meet without using their official titles.
马：‘我不认为这种说法有根据...我希望能创造更多友善的条件让
这件事(两岸领导人APEC会面)成真’。
(马强调)‘APEC原本就是设计为在避免使用任何官方头衔的情况下
让各经贸区领导人互相见面’。
"The idea is to accommodate the participation by
countries like us. And that's why we consider that is a
good opportunity for us to use that format for leaders of
two sides to meet without generating other unnecessary
sensitivities," Ma said.
马：‘这个点子让我们这样的国家也能参与(APEC)，这也是为何我们
认为这是个很好的机会，让我们双方领导人可以会面，而不会产生其它
不必要的敏感性’
"For Taiwan, we cannot really avoid facing the rise of
mainland China and making the necessary policy
adjustments to assure peace and prosperity," Ma said.
对台湾来说，我们不可能在无视中国大陆正崛起的情况下
做出持续和平与繁荣的政策调整。
Citing opinion polls conducted by the government, Ma said
more than 80 per cent of people surveyed support the
status quo in the past 20 years and his "one China"
principle receives more than 50 per cent support.
引用政府所做的民意调查，马认为超过80%的国民是支持过去20年来
的"现状"，而他的"一个中国原则*"也得到超过50%的选民认同。
*：这指的应该是‘一个中国各自表述’的92共识
"That's why we consider we should continue the current
policy but with more public communication with people,"
Ma said.
所以我们认为我们应在与国民更多公共沟通的前提下持续对的政策。
