The pro-nuclear incumbent mayor of Genkai, Saga Prefecture, was re-elected
Sunday for a third term.
拥核的日本九州佐贺县玄海市长岸本英雄再任胜选，这是他的第三任。
In the mayoral election, incumbent Hideo Kishimoto, 61, defeated two other
anti-nuclear candidates. Both of his opponents had campaigned on a platform
that demanded Kyushu Electric Power Co. halt plans to restart its nuclear
power plant in the town.
岸本英雄击败二位反核的竞争对手，这两位竞争对手的竞选诉求都是要求九州电力
公司停止重启核电厂的计画。
The Nuclear Regulation Authority has been conducting safety checks on the No.
3 and No. 4 reactors at the Genkai plant, part of strict new safety standards
imposed after the March 2011 Fukushima atomic disaster. If they pass these
checks, the Genkai reactors would move closer to being fired up.

Kishimoto’s election victory comes after reactors 1 and 2 at the Sendai
nuclear plant in Kagoshima Prefecture became the first to meet strict new NRA
safety standards last month. The watchdog’s official approval is expected
later this month after a period of public comment on the report.
