There is a saying that
"All is fair in war and love."
That sets precedence of comparing love and war.
Another expression about war is one could win the battle
yet to lose the war. Apply that to the struggle for love,
one would be well advised to never ever fighting with the
partner. This would be precisely be the situation that the
most one can do is to win the battle and lose the war.
Make peace, if unobtainable, truce, but never ever surrender
to fight. It's not worth it.
