The Economist_Autism
原文:
Autism affects people's social behaviour and communication,
and may impair their ability to learn things. All this is well known.
Less familiar to most, though, are the gastrointestinal problems
associated with the condition. (*1)
The intestines of children with autism often harbour bacteria
different from those in the guts of the neurotypical. As a consequence,
such people are more than three times as likely as others (*2)
are to develop serious alimentary canal disorders at some point in their lives.
Unfortunate though this is, (*3)
the upset gut floras of autistic people are seen by some investigators
as the key to the condition and to treating it.
问题:
使用倒装的手法是为了强调 less familiar to most ?
A be-V ( more than ) 倍数词 + as + 原级 adj + as + B
= A be-V ( more than ) 倍数词 + 比较级 adj + than + B
-> such people are more than three times more likely than others
还是有用到 more than + 倍数词,应该要搭配 as….as 句构比较好?

Yes. Yes.2. "more than"只是为了表达是多于三倍(只是修饰three times)。要方便理解的话,比如我挑个5倍好了(5倍符合"morethan three times)->"..., such people are five times as likely asothers are to ..." 3. Yes.

The gastrointestinal problemsassociated with the condition are less familiarto most.

1. less familiar to most 应该理解为,人们较不熟悉的是...,most这里做代名词

2. are as likely as are?
