最近上一个托福作文班，老师是个老外，他说英文句子可分为两种
nominal sentence 和 verbal sentence
差别就像以下的两句：
Nominal: Lincoln's hope was for the preservation of the Union without war, but the South's attack on Fort Sumter made war an inevitability.
Verbal: Lincoln hoped to preserve the Union without war, but the South attacked Fort Sumter, making war inevitable.
他说好文章应该多用Verbal sentence，我自己也是觉得Verbal读起来较容易理解
但是我上网查了一下，发现有意见提到语言考试应该多用名词句，真正要锻练英文写作才用动词句
我目前的目标只是托福能拿4~5分，那是不是该多用名词句呢？
而且名词句的好处很明显...字数比较多xD

动词使用之频率高可以产生较大的好处.多用动词比较好. (请比较这二句中文)

大部分我看过的 style guides 都推荐直接用动词，而不要把动词变名词 (nominalization)。例如 Steven Pinker"The Sense of Style"，chapter 2 最后面。此书也有中文版原po例句中的 preservation 之类的名词又称为 zombie nounshttp://goo.gl/oYVU6T

第一个例句改成Lincoln's hope was to preserve感觉会是最佳解
