I am frustrated with my oral report of DA.
Two weeks elapse, and I have not finished it.
The instructor asks us to work on politeness strategies,
proposed by Goffman, Brown, and Levinston.
We need to collect those strategies, such as thanking,
complimenting, apologizing, utilized by people we encounter.
I think the anticipated problem I'll have is that I spend most
of my time in my dorm. It is a little embarrassing to say,
I'm a homebody. I like to center my time on home.
So, gathering data is the main obstacle for me to complete my assignment.
Fortunately, discussion on the translation projects bestowed
the opportunity on me.
However, I have problem in understanding the face theory as well.
Is thanking between customers and clerks used as positive politeness?
Can connotation of apology, refusal or condemn serve as tools of
not hurting individual's negative face?
O, I'm so confused.
A busy week is comin'.
I gotta review the Pilgrim's Progress, the Advanture of Huckleberry
Finn, Pride and Prejudice, Mac Flecnoe, Robinson Crusoe, and the
original novel of Blade Runner by Philip K. Dick.
Now, it's a good thing for me not to take American Lit. this semester.
Well, it doesn't mean that I don't wanna take it.
I just cannot afford reading so many literary works in a term.
