Tuchel on how he is dealing with Chelsea players linked with a move away
29 Aug 2022
Thomas Tuchel admits this time of year is different from others when it
comes to managing his players' mindset as transfer speculation ramps up in
the final days of the window.

A number of Tuchel's squad are being linked with moves away from Chelsea
before the deadline on Thursday evening, notably several of his wide
attacking forwards and a couple of younger players.
Dealing with that uncertainty is to be expected, Tuchel acknowledges, so
he is prepared to give his players some extra leeway even with a fixture
at Southampton around the corner.
'They're human, it's a transfer window and they're not only with us in
Cobham,' the boss pointed out. 'Once they leave the building, they have
their phones on and they will get calls and think about their future and
their next step. There is a World Cup coming which everybody talks about
and thinks about.

'I have accepted it is like this, and from the second of September there
are no more excuses and no more distractions. We will have different
leverage to push players and the commitment will have to be there 100 per
cent. We will not accept 99, but the reality is in the last days of the
transfer window you have to accept it, no matter what you wish for.'
That is not the only reason Tuchel is looking forward to the end of this
week, when players can no longer be bought or sold. By then he will know
what he has to work with, until January at the earliest, as a
fixture-filled few months before the World Cup begins in earnest.
'Right now we could need some more players in some positions, but it's
very close to the end of the transfer window, and when the first of
September finishes, I will be a happy coach no matter what happens,' he
said.

'I will try to find solutions and not think what could have happened. The
only thing that matters is reality. On Saturday the only thing that
mattered was to find a way to win the match, even from a disadvantage
position.
'What will matter in Southampton is to find a way to win, step up
individually and push the team from my side. This is what we will do no
matter if players come or not.'
