Chelsea Here Chelsea There: Two goals for Anjorin, victory on Colwill's
full Brighton debut
29 AUG 2022
There were some impressive performances from Chelsea players on loan
throughout the Football League in a week which also included the Carabao
Cup second round, featuring a brace in the Championship and a cup upset...

Levi Colwill made his first start for Brighton & Hove Albion in their big
Carabao Cup win over Forest Green Rovers last week. He was part of a
youthful and much-changed Seagulls side which secured a comfortable
victory, with Colwill and his fellow defenders keeping their opponents at
arm's length.

He featured again from the bench in the Premier League on Saturday to help
Brighton hold on to their narrow 1-0 lead over Leeds United at the Amex
Stadium. That victory set a new club record of nine consecutive top-flight
matches without losing, as well as moving them up to third in the table at
this early stage, while inflicting Leeds' first defeat of the season.
Tino Anjorin scored the first brace of his senior career, but it wasn't
quite enough to give Huddersfield Town back-to-back home wins for the
first time in 2022/23. The attacking midfielder had never scored more than
once in a season before the Terriers hosted West Bromwich Albion in the
Championship on Saturday, when he found the net twice in the opening
half-an-hour.

He opened the scoring with a fine curling shot after 11 minutes and
doubled Huddersfield's lead after showing great pace to beat the defence
to a loose ball and race clear before beating the goalkeeper at his near
post. However, West Brom mounted a comeback and secured a 2-2 draw, with
Anjorin withdrawn shortly after their second-half equaliser.

A fantastic first goal at the John Smith's Stadium for Tino!
Jamie Cumming and Henry Lawrence were in fine form for MK Dons as they
helped secure back-to-back clean sheets in a pair of impressive wins.
First, the on-loan duo were two of only four players to keep their place
in the starting XI for a Carabao Cup match away at Watford, who went into
the game second in the Championship. However, a confident performance from
the Dons made light of the gap between the sides as they triumphed 2-0,
booking their place in the third round for the first time in three seasons.

Lawrence has made five appearances at full-back for MK Dons this season
Both players were in the line-up again as MK Dons secured only their
second win of the season in League One, and their first away from home,
with an emphatic 4-0 victory at Morecambe. Lawrence provided the assist
for Conor Grant to score the Dons' third at the end of a lightning-fast
counter-attack, before Cumming denied Morecambe a late consolation with
two excellent saves in quick succession.

Lucas Bergstrom didn't have quite such an enjoyable weekend in League One,
although at one point it had looked like he would play a major role in a
memorable victory. Derby County are yet to drop points at home this season
and Bergstrom made three crucial first-half saves for Peterborough United
to keep the scores level on Saturday.

It looked like things would get even tougher when Peterborough were
reduced to 10 men 10 minutes into the second half. It was the visitors who
took a surprise lead not long after, though, but Bergstrom was powerless
to prevent Derby equalising from a corner in the 88th minute, and the Rams
then scored again from close range in the 92nd to make the final score 2-1
and maintain their 100 per cent home record.
Sam McClelland played the first 53 minutes for Barrow as they were
eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Lincoln City in a penalty shoot-out
following a 2-2 draw, but was in the starting line-up again as they
continued their brilliant start to the League Two season. They scored
early on away at Wimbledon, with McClelland and his Barrow team-mates
needing to do plenty of defending to hold on to their 1-0 lead late on,
securing their fifth win from six games so far.
Over in Italy, Romelu Lukaku and Inter Milan dropped their first Serie A
points of the season, away to Lazio. Inter went behind but equalised in
the second half, Lukaku being replaced by Edin Dzeko with the scores
level, but Lazio took the lead with 15 minutes remaining before former
Chelsea forward Pedro curled in late on to secure a 3-1 win for the home
side.

Across the Atlantic in the USA, goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina couldn't
prevent Chicago Fire losing 2-0 at home to 10-man Montreal in the MLS,
with the damage done by two goals in the space of five first-half minutes.
