Toronto Blue Jays vs. Houston Astros: MLB series preview
SCOUTING REPORT
The Jays took three of four vs. the Astros at the Rogers Centre July 25-28,
their first meeting since Houston moved to the AL West. The one loss was 8-6 to
Keuchel on July 27. The Jays are 4-6 lifetime vs. the Astros, but are winless
in three games in Houston in inter-league play, in 2005 . . . Manager John
Gibbons suggested on Thursday there is a possibility Melky Cabrera might be out
the rest of the season with left knee woes. If that is the case, the club could
move him to the 60-day disabled list to create room for Saturday’s TBA
starter. It could be RHP Chien-Ming Wang, who was scheduled to start for the
Triple-A Bisons on Thursday but was scratched . . . The Jays added 2B Maicer
Izturis (left ankle) to the growing ranks on the DL on Thursday, recalling INF
Ryan Goins, batting .257 with six homers and 46 RBIs for the Bisons. Also
placed on the DL during the Yankees series was RF Jose Bautista (bruised left
hip), as of Aug. 21 . . . The ejection of Jose Reyes on Wednesday was the 10th
heave-ho of the season for the Jays (Gibbons 4, Bautista 2, Demarlo Hale, Brett
Lawrie, Edwin Encarnacion and Reyes once each)
