Some horse owners install electrical fences to keep their horses in the
field. If the horse touches the fence, the horse gets a minor shock, which
teaches it to stay away from the fence and remain safely within the
enclosure. After learning about the shock, the horse no longer gets close
enough to the fence to get shocked - even if the electricity is turned off.
