If you have tried all the methods and failed, resulting in your lack of confid
ence in speaking English. Feel free to message me ;)) let’s do something to c
hange that! When messaging me, give me a brief Introduction and what you want
to learn exactly.
Did you grow up going to cram schools and whatnot, trying to memorize all the
phrases, grammar and words in the books, but when talking to an actual English
-speaking person, you still freeze up and start drawing a blank? Or sometimes
you do understand what they’re saying, but you just can’t express yourself i
n English ending up using body language or google translate?
你是否从小到大都跟着补习班、学校,学了很多课本、讲义里的英文文法、词组,背了很
多东西,写了很多题目,好像考试也有一定程度,但只要遇到讲英文的脸孔,你就只能站
在旁边尴尬地笑,或是支支吾吾、比手画脚,想要讲个句子却挤不出字,不知从哪开头?
Did you try bettering your English skills by watching all the talk shows or
movies, having all these vocabs in your head but never know how to actually us
e it when talking to Americans?
或是为了提升英文听力、口说会话,想要了解一些生活上的用语,美国当地人究竟是怎么
说的,因此看了许多美剧、脱口秀,但真正进入对话时,发现自己脑中有许多单字,却不
知道到底当地人会怎么说?
Perhaps you have signed up for one of those so-called crash courses guaranteed
by the end of the course you’ll be able to talk to Americans like it’s noth
ing, but always ending up in disappointment and realizing that it’s not exact
ly what you were looking for?
也曾去报名英语会话补习班,那种保证让你学会开口说英文的课程,但总觉得补习班老师
与学生是授课关系,不是真的与人聊天,没办法像交朋友一样轻松地聊天?
If you have tried all these methods and failed, resulting in your lack of conf
idence in speaking English. Feel free to message me ;)) let’s do something to
change that
如果你觉得上面的情况似曾相似,试过了很多方法开口说英文但还是没有信心说英文,欢
迎你寄信给我!
以下是老师的问答访谈:
1. Backgrounds
I am an American born Taiwanese. I grew up in an environment where teachers en
courage students to be creative thinkers, to speak up, and be expressive in ou
r opinions…where we are encouraged to do extracurricular activities after sch
ool (whether it be sports or art-related projects). In the classroom, teachers
place a high importance on participation so everyone is encouraged to openly
discuss materials with classmates and the teacher, which differs from the Asia
n education system where it is heavily lecture-based.
In America where there is less social hierarchy than Asia, the relationship be
tween students and teachers is more casual and friendly so American students t
alk to teachers more freely and teachers respect students' opinions. I recall
a time where a student cursed in class and the teacher, instead of scolding
him, pulled him aside and asked him what happened/what made him curse.
2. What kind of relationship do I want with my students?
老师希望的学生与老师互动模式
So I believe students always learn better when there’s no pressure. I’d like
my students and I to have a causal and friendly relationship where we can tal
k about everything and they don’t feel stress when learning with me.
3. What's the difference between American and Taiwanese education?
台湾与美国的学习系统不同地方
Also, i think Asian education focuses on the knowledge of accumulation/retenti
on (like memorization words and concepts) and on how students manage and use t
he knowledge they learned in school...everything seems to be based on structur
e and precision.
Americans are interested in how students use their knowledge in society. The A
merican system lets students criticize ideas, and challenge as well as create
concepts…which breed comprehensive thinkers (or should i say rebels LOL). And
lastly, i think the pressure to do well in school is prevalent within the asi
an education system. Thats why 补习班 is very popular in Asia.
4. What do you think the biggest problem that Taiwanese people have is?
觉得台湾学生对于口说最大的困难在哪
I feel like a major problem that a lot of Taiwanese have when it comes to Engl
ish speaking is that they tend to just translate everything directly into Engl
ish, a perfect example would be “open the light” cos in chinese it’s 开灯 a
nd Taiwanese people tend to speak really formally using a lot of big words whe
re as in America we like to keep it as simple as possible
5. What can you learn in my class
希望给学生带来什么收获
Given all that, my lesson plan can be really adaptable depending on what my st
udents are interested in, it can go from ordering in restaurants, asking for d
irections, having causal conversations with Native speakers, slangs and phrase
s that we Americans actually use in daily life, or even flirting! The point is
to have fun and learn at the same time!
