Could you help me to correct the sentence below:
"Always asking the female classmate who was next to him for a candy！"

这里不是这个网站里所提到的第2种情况..
因为这里的结构是：关代+"be V",(后面没有"现分/过分"),
是第3种情况：关代后直接接上V(于此为"be V"："was"),
省略时将V改写为"现分(V-ing)",所以
who was next to him ===> being next to him
可是我听到的都是"next to him", 而不是"being next to him"！
谁可以导正我的盲点！ > <

你的问题在于把be动词视为动词，它具有动词的特性没错，但是在这里因为后面加上形容词词组，所以我会把它写成单纯用形容词词组去形容名词，而不是形容词子句。如果原句是who was being next to hime的话，表示强调存在的being，我就会保留它。
