Chile
1 C. Bravo 4
Kept Chile in the lead during crucial spells, pulling off world-class saves
from Bresciano and Cahill.
2 E. Mena 2.5
Functioned almost as a left winger with his constant forays forward, but too
often he was caught out of position as Australia exploited his flank.
18 G. Jara 3
Beaten in the air glaringly more than once by Cahill, but he made some key
plays late on to make up for it.
21 M. Diaz 3
Pulled off some important tackles, and his role came more to the fore when
Chile were put under pressure.
10 J. Valdivia 4
Played like a man possessed early on, linking up on almost every attack and
smashing home a great goal from just inside the box. A game littered with
some quality passes.
17 G. Medel 2.5
Cahill literally swarmed all over him on almost every cross, and it was he
who failed to get up high enough to stop the former Everton man from scoring
Australia's goal.
8 A. Vidal 3
A little subdued, but that wasn't surprising given his fitness levels.
Substituted midway through the second half, this game was a good test for his
fitness.
4 M. Isla 3.5
Offered a lot of attacking support but crucially, he was more responsible
defensively than Mena. A commendable performance in both halves.
20 C. Aránguiz 3.5
Burst from midfield regularly with real purpose, facilitating the opening
goal with a delicate dribble around the keeper.
7 A. Sánchez 4
Involved in almost everything good for the home side, stabbing in the opener
before intelligently setting up Valdivia's second. His first touch was
imperious throughout.
11 E. Vargas 3
His challenge for a high ball helped to set up Alexis' opener, but he was not
quite at the level of the Barcelona man throughout.
Substitutes
16 F. Gutiérrez 2.5
A standard game after replacing Vidal, but hardly anything special.
15 J. Beausejour 3.5
A sweetly struck rebound from 20 yards sealed the game for Chile.
9 M. Pinilla 3
Barely two minutes after his introduction, he forced a save from Ryan that
was then turned in for the clincher.
Australia
1 M. Ryan 2.5
Would not be happy with conceding three goals tonight.
2 I. Franjic 3.5
Played in a peach of a cross for Cahill to head in Australia's lone goal.
3 J. Davidson 2.5
At times, he was torn apart by Alexis and Co. out on the flanks, but there
were some mature spells in the second half.
6 M.Spiranovic 2.5
Came up with a few solid one-on-one plays, but when forced into a footrace he
was usually second best. Almost got his pocket picked by Alexis.
22 A. Wilkinson 3.5
Solid throughout, but the highlight will surely be a magnificent goalline
clearance from Vargas' shot.
23 M. Bresciano 3
The veteran midfielder nearly came up with the goods in the second half, but
his excellent volley was met with an even better Bravo save.
4 T. Cahill 4
His aerial ability was always going to be Australia's main weapon, and he did
not disappoint. Leaped high to head in a first-half goal, and tormented the
centre backs all game with his jump.
7 M. Leckie 3
Much more influential in the second half, giving Australia a real option out
wide to spread their play.
5 M. Milligan 2.5
Put in his fair share of defensive work, but was guilty of allowing Chile's
schemers a little too much room to operate.
15 M. Jedinak 2
Bettered time and time again by his Chilean counterparts, and picked up a
booking for persistent fouling. No luck for the Crystal Palace captain.
11 T. Oar 2
Industrious on the wing, but sorely lacking in end product.
Substitutes
19 R. McGowan 3
Held his own defensively.
10 B. Halloran 3
Added a few encouraging plays in the final third.
14 J. Troisi 2.5
Not a whole lot of time to make an impact.
