His main work was game play features such as integration of vfx or a heavily
data driven tutorial system. During which he worked closely with designers to
ensure it meet their requirements.
On occasions he also worked on our back-end server to add small features like
new data fields required for his features on the client side.
I got to work closely with Michael for several months, as the two of us
implemented a First-Time User Experience (FTUE) for an upcoming mobile title.
Michael was in charge of building an intuitive and accessible tool that
allowed a simple Designer like me to dynamically and instantaneously add,
remove or rearrange steps of our tutorial for rapid prototyping purposes.
During this time, Michael was instrumental in my ability to succeed in this
task. He created excellent documentation for me, walked me through the tool
whenever I had questions, and was quick to add improvements to usability
based on my feedback. Our FTUE was a massive undertaking with more moving
parts than any feature I've ever worked on as a Game Designer, but Michael
took the challenge head-on with me, growing as an Engineer and helping me
learn more about a discipline I didn't fully understand.
Ultimately, Michael delivered by making an excellent tool that the whole
studio will continue to use and gain benefit from for years to come. Thank
