Year after year, Serena Williams puts her perfect serve on display on tennis
courts around the world, blasting ace after ace - and usually blasting far
more aces than any other player on the tour.
But this year the race for the WTA's ace leader in 2014 was extremely close -
the top two finishers had 452 and 435 aces, respectively, with third place
all the way back at 306 aces. Serena Williams was one of those top two
finishers, but a fast-rising WTA Rising Star was right up there with her.
Did the World No.1 finish first on this list, or did that WTA Rising Star
serve up an upset? Did Sam Stosur's golden game (see the above video) push
her up the list? Where did Sabine Lisicki - now the fastest server in WTA

No.10: Venus Williams kicks off the list for most aces on tour in 2014,
blasting 222 of those babies.
No.9: Ana Ivanovic won more matches than anyone in 2014 - 58 - and unleashed
231 aces along the way.
No.8: Sam Stosur's golden game in Birmingham was among a feast of aces in
2014 - she hit 234 total.
No.7: WTA Rising Star Madison Keys, the No.1-ranked teenager in the world,
hit 235 aces in 2014.
No.6: Sabine Lisicki's record 131mph serve in Stanford wasn't an ace, but she
did hit 245 of them.
No.5: Petra Kvitova's big lefty serve didn't just help her conquer Wimbledon,
it produced 263 aces.
No.4: And another lefty - Lucie Safarova - outdid her fellow Czech with 272
aces during 2014.
No.3: The second WTA Rising Star on the list, CoCo Vandeweghe, cracked the
300 mark with 306 aces.
No.2: Another WTA Rising Star, Karolina Pliskova, came so close to No.1 with
a whopping 435 aces.
No.1: But it was the World No.1, Serena Williams, who tops this list. She had
452 aces in 2014.
