[修辞解析]
这句乍看之下,感觉不太合语法。某件事怎么能 “writes”政治记者呢? 是作者笔误
呢? 还是拟人法呢? 答案是以上皆非,这句运用的是倒装。倒装句有多种类型,我们最熟
悉的是疑问句的倒装。如: “Where are you going?” 该句中,主词you和动词are倒装
,而成为问句。
而本句所运用的倒装是属直接引句的倒装。这句话原本应为:
TIME’s national political correspondent Molly Ball writes “On Nov. 3 (or,
hopefully, sooner after), we will finally get an answer to the question of
what these past four discombobulating years have meant.”
将直接引句 “On Nov. 3…” (受词)倒装到句首,同时与受词相关的动词也一起挪到主
词 “TIME’s national …” 前面。这里使用倒装的原因是,对读者来说,报导的内容
比起报导人更为重要,因而将引用句挪至句首。
