Winner of international magician competition returns to Taiwan (2010/06/16)
A 25-year-old Taiwanese man who took top prize in an international magic show
in Japan returned to Taiwan Wednesday. Chen Ri-sheng陈日升, who goes by the
stage name “Magic Deo,” plans to go into show business even though he was
near the top of his class at one of Taiwan’s best universities.
In addition to costume changes, Chen produces an umbrella and even a
surfboard from thin air, winning rounds of applause from the audience. This
is the part of Chen’s performance that saw him named grand champion.

I’m very happy. Because this is the first time someone from Taiwan has won
the Japan International Magic Competition.
Chen is only 25 years old and is a graduate of Chengchih University’s
Department of Economics. At the competition, in addition to being grand
champion, he was selected by the audience as the best magician and was
awarded a special prize by the Asian Magic Association.
Besides his mouth, Chen is known for his flexible tongue.
Although he was among the university’s top economics students, Chen has
created a new future for himself in the world of magic.

None of the props used in my performances were bought. I made them myself.
The process of searching for materials and thinking about how to make the
props is the most tiring thing.

At such a young age he found something he’s good at, that inspires him and
that he finds interesting. It’s hard to find that.
Chen’s father is happy with his son’s nontraditional approach to his career
and believes that if he follows his interest, he will always be able to make
a living.
高材生魔术
年仅25岁，政大经济系毕业的高材生陈日升，打败来自韩国日本东亚地区选手，勇夺第九
届日本海国际魔术大赛总冠军。陈日升从小就喜欢魔术，长大后自己制作道具，每天练习
5小时。成为魔术界的台湾之光。
除了变装，还可以凌空变出大洋伞，高举伞后更变出冲浪板，赢得台下观众如雷的掌声。

虽然是政大经济系毕业的高材生，但也因为自己热爱魔术的坚持，创造了一片天。

从兴趣发展成职业，更获奖无数，陈爸爸不认为顶尖大学经济系毕业的孩子进入艺能圈可
惜，因为他相信兴趣可以当饭吃，而且行行都可以出状元。
