21 years old lost $25k
Disclaimer: I realize I’m an idiot and I should not have done the following.
No need for sarcastic remarks or anything of the sort. I’ve learned my
lesson.
For context, I just turned 21 two weeks ago and had some success saving up
money from internships and smart investing. I live with my parents and am on
track to graduate soon as a software engineer. I have around $30k in student
loans.
Up until recently, I had around $35k invested and decided to take a risk in
the stock market. I liquidated all my positions (stupid, I know) and decided
to go 100% in $AAPL calls and $GME shares. Needless to say I lost this bet.
$35k quickly (1 week) turned into $10k and I am now down $25k total.
This has deeply saddened me and I am not sure if I’ll be able to recover
from this loss. I was planning on buying a house with this money but now it
is out of the question.
Future: I will be starting an internship this summer so I will be trying to
save every penny I make. I also live with my parents currently paying rent of
$500/month.
What advice would you offer and am I screwed?
