Report: Episode VII To Be Shot Using 35mm Film

The Boba Fett Fan Club is reporting that Star Wars Episode VII will be
shot on film instead of digitally and that the cinematographer for the
film will be a man with three Abrams-directed projects under his belt.
'Announced today at a film industry event in Los Angeles, we're
exclusively reporting that Dan Mindel ASC, BSC is shooting Star
Wars Episode 7 with J.J. Abrams — on 35mm film. Specifically,
Kodak film stock 5219.'
Mindel previously worked with Abrams on Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek,
and Star Trek Into Darkness. The decision to use 35m film instead of a
digital capture process reflects a preference that Abrams described to an
audience at the Produced By conference in June:
"I have not yet shot a movie digitally. Film is the thing I am
most comfortable with. If film were to go away — and digital
is challenging it—then the standard for the highest,
best quality would go away."
