Spurs down Ulker in last leg of Global Games

The Spurs rode Tim Duncan and Tony Parker to victory Saturday in the last
of two dates on the NBA’s Global Games tour, outlasting Fenerbahce Ulker
96-90 at Istanbul’s Ulker Sports Arena.

If equally meaningless, the Spurs will at least be able to make the long
flight home to San Antonio on a victorious note after losing to Alba Berlin
at the buzzer in their preseason opener.

Saturday’s game was only slightly less competitive, with Ulker following
Alba’s lead by erasing a larger early lead. But, unlike the German power, it
was unable to finish the Spurs off despite a game-high 30 point from former
Lakers guard Andrew Goudelock.

Parker followed his 28-point outing against Alba with 22 to go with seven
rebounds and seven assists in 36 minutes. Duncan pulled a performance out of
his prime with 23 points in 35, while Ginobili added 12. Though it didn’t
cost them, turnovers were again an issue as the Spurs registered 19 miscues
for a total of 43 in the two games.

Add everything up, and the Spurs still had answers after Ulker took a
brief one-point advantage late in the third quarter. They responded with a
10-2 run to push back ahead for good, and then scored 12 of the first 16
points to open the fourth quarter for a 13-point edge.

The Spurs will now get a week off, with their next game coming at Phoenix
on Oct. 18 at 9 p.m.
