A-Rod to start Thursday, Friday in final 2 games
Alex Rodriguez's farewell to baseball as a player will begin Thursday night
in Boston, as Yankees manager Joe Girardi has announced that the designated
hitter will start the finale against the Red Sox.
Girardi said that Rodriguez will not start in the team's scheduled games on
Tuesday or Wednesday, but A-Rod could be available to pinch-hit.
Knuckleballer Steven Wright is scheduled to pitch for the Red Sox on Thursday
in Rodriguez's penultimate start.

Rodriguez, 41, announced his retirement Sunday in a news conference at Yankee
Stadium, and he said his final game in a New York uniform will come Friday
night against the Rays in the Bronx. After Friday, Rodriguez will receive an
unconditional release from the team, with plans to assume a special role as
an advisor and instructor for the club's younger players, beginning in 2017.
The three-time American League MVP Award winner has hit just .199 since Aug.
9 of last year for the Yankees, albeit with 18 home runs that have upped his
career total to 696
