league system will join the Yankees with a chance to don Yankees pinstripes
and help the team reclaim first place in the American League East.
According to Jack Curry of the YES Network, the Yankees plan on calling up
Greg Bird prior to tonight’s series finale against the Cleveland Indians.
Bird will be the backup first basemen to Teixeira, after Garrett Jones was
designated for assignment yesterday afternoon. And with the Yankees in the
midst of playing 16 games in 16 days, it seemed to make sense to add another
bat to the struggling offense.
Bird is hitting .301/.353/.500 in 34 games with the Scranton Wilkes-Barre
Railriders.
