Steve Nash wants to focus on the Nets,
not on Kyrie Irving
After finishing the preseason with a 3-1 record following a win over the
Minnesota Timberwolves, it would seem like all is well in Brooklyn. Given the
uncertainty surrounding Kyrie Irving, however, that is not the case.
Irving can not return to team activities until he receives a COVID-19
vaccine, a mandate he’s publicly opposed to, and the Nets organization has
decided to not offer him a contract extension.
Head coach Steve Nash has been busy experimenting rotations, improving team
chemistry and figuring out a potential starting lineup. Rather than making
Irving’s situation a priority, Nash has taken a step back from it to focus
on who is available and the obstacles that are ahead with the start of the
regular season looming.
In the pregame press conference on Friday, Nash was asked if he watched Irving
’s Instagram live broadcast on Thursday.
“To be honest, I didn’t listen to it,” Nash said. “I think I’ve pretty
much said everything I have to say about it. If something changes, we can
talk about it. But, I really want to focus on moving forward and our group
and solutions to the challenge ahead of us.”
