Denver Nuggets rookie Michael Porter Jr. is in some hot water right now after
sending out a controversial tweet wherein he seems to be defending the
Minnesota cops involved in the recent death of George Floyd.

Porter has not only gotten on the bad side on more than a few folks on social
media, but he has also been called out by a number of NBA veterans as well,
including Los Angeles Clippers sixth man extraordinaire Lou Williams, Mike
Scott of the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks swingman Moe Harkless.

Porter is a Christian, and the fact that his Twitter bio reads “God first
always” seems to indicate that he is religious. This is perhaps where his
statement is coming from here, as he asks for prayers and guidance for the
cops who were, as Porter put it, influenced by “evil.”

We somewhat get what Porter is trying to say here, but there’s no denying
that the timing of his message is ill-advised. It’s very easy to misconstrue
his pray-for-everyone message as in a way, taking the side of the embattled

how much this has backfired in Porter’s face.

The unfortunate death of Floyd has captivated the whole nation as what is
deemed as another act of racial discrimination at the hands of the
authorities. This is an issue that will not go away anytime soon, and in
Porter’s case, it is likely that his statement here will stick with him (and
haunt him?) for years to come.
