Report: Dan Gilbert Has Interest In Selling Cavaliers
Dan Gilbert has interest in selling the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Steph
-en A. Smith. Smith discussed a scenario in which Gilbert should approach LeBro
-n James about a potential trade if he doesn't commit to the franchise in the l
-ong-term.
"I'll tell you the No. 1 reason why LeBron ain't going to capitulate to anythin
-g that Dan Gilbert wants to do, because what Dan Gilbert wants to do, from wha
-t I'm told, is sell the team," said Smith. "But they're more viable as a commo
-dity if LeBron James is on your squad as opposed to if LeBron James leaves.
"That's one of the reasons why Dan Gilbert want him to commit to three to five
years. Because within that time span, you sell the team, you get money out the
wazoo."
Gilbert purchased the Cavaliers in 2005 for $375 million and are now valued at
$1.2 billion.
In September, Joe Vardon of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Gilbert could h
-ave interest in selling the franchise within the next few years.
