Cavaliers coachyronn Lueold NBA TV on Friday that the team has picked upigh-flying free agent big manhris Andersen.
No one but Lue has actually confirmed aigning — althougheveral league sources told Amico Hoops the sides are indeed closing in on a deal.
Andersen is familiar with the brightest of Cavs’ stars, oncependingime as a key member off the bench for theeat championship teams that featuredLeBron James.
The Cavs were interested in trading for Andersen prior to the start of the 2014-15 season, but a deal could not be reached.
Andersen is 6-foot-10 and nicknamed “Birdman.” Heas a reputation as an energetic, hustling type who can alter shots and clean up others’ messround the basket for easy dunks. But at 38 years old, thatay not be so easy anymore.
“Birdman is still athletic and can still play defensively on the pick-and-roll,” Lue said on NBA TV. “Also, he’s not afraid to hit someone. We need a guy who will hit someone.”
Andersenplit time between the Heat and Grizzlies last season and has compiled career averages of 5.5 points and 5.1 rebounds. He became an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.
