Two years after she emerged runner-up in Taiwanese singing contest
Super Idol, Malaysian singer Meeia Foo still has to face criticisms
of her vocal abilities from a judge.
Never mind that the judge she's referring to is actually none other
than her boyfriend, who happens to be a judge at a singing competition
that she joined before Super Idol.
RazorTV caught up with the 27-year-old who was in Singapore to promote
her second album, Tearless.
"My boyfriend is sometimes more critical of my vocals than my album
producers. For example, there was once he complained that I didn't
emote enough in a song and we ended up quarrelling over that," she
explained.
In fact, one of their lovers' spats ended up in a song Zui Pa Leng
Zhan (which literally means Fear of the Cold War).
Foo said: "When I was singing that song, I was having a 'cold war'
with my boyfriend in real life."
She has certainly sang her way into many girls' hearts with her
heartrending rendition of the ballad. However, in the competitive
music industry today, Foo believes that vocals alone is not enough
to set her apart from her peers. She has shed 15 kg since her
appearance in Super Idol two years ago, and gave up her girl-next-door
image for a trendier, sexier one.
Dressed in a low-cut blouse that highlighted her assets, Foo boasted
a slimmer figure. She joked that she sometimes wonders why female
singers have to dress so skimpily and worries about how she can up
the ante the next time.
