Cubs' Garza out indefinitely with stress reaction
Cubs starter Matt Garza is out indefinitely with stress reaction in the back
of his elbow, but no decision has been yet about the rest of his season.
"Matt is a competitor," GM Jed Hoyer said, adding it will be hard to hold him
back from trying to return, even if his season is over. "We'll re-evaluate
when he picks up a ball again ... The surprise was he was feeling good."
"He's likely to be a member of the Cubs in 2013... (Trading him) is the last
thing we're thinking of."
Said fellow Cubs starter Samardzija: "Garza really loves to pitch, man. He's
not a guy to take a day or ask for a day or complain about how he feels. So
you know when he's not feeling well he's definitely not feeling well.
Hopefully he can get healthy and back as soon as possible because we need a
guy like 'Garz' to strengthen the rotation. He really turns in up a notch for
sure."
